capsaicin

I have a new OBSESSION - CAPSAICIN.

For those who don't know wad it is, its the active compound in chillies that makes it hot. I mean that chilli kind of hot. Obviously. I dun like eating chilli-ish stuff, because i don't really like that burning sensation. And so I like it because I like extremely powerful stuff, and capsaicin is extremely powerful in its pure form. And by extremely powerful i mean that it can practically burn your tongue. And that is a gross understatement. If i can get my hands on it i can...MUAHAHAHAHAHA. Just joking. (:

Anyway the hotness of something is measured using scoville units. There are many different types of chilli peppers, and they all measure differently on the scoville scale. Lets start.

1) Bell pepper. Scoville units: 0 Its not hot at all.

2)Jalapenos. Scoville units: 2.5k-5k Its the famous phat green one.

3) Cayenne Pepper. Scoville units: 30k-50k This is very hot. It boosts your metabolism.

4)Thai Chillies. Scoville units: 50K-100K . Closer to home.

5)Jamaican Hot. Scoville units: 100k-200k. Nice and interesting shapes.

6)Scotch Bonnet. Scoville units: 100k-250k. oooo... yellow...

7) Habeneros. Scoville units: 100k-300k. This is freaking freaking hot. Wrinkly.

8)Red Savina. Scoville units: 350k-580k. Quite variable.

9) Bhut Jolokia. Scoville units: Roughly 1 million. Certified hottest chilli in the world. Yay.

10) Pure Capsaicin. Scoville units: 16 million. This is CRAZY. the off-white crystals are inside the vial in the bottle.

For comparison, some guy put 1 tiny crystal in a pot of tomato soup, and he had to throw the whole pot away because it was too hot. His wife threatened to divorce him when she could speak again. haha.

This ends my chilli hot post. Still a lot of chillies to explore.

These images do not belong to me.

Happy chilli eating.
